Buffalo Creek: Paint By Numbers

Paint by numbers summary:

Buffalo Creek's newest album "Paint By Numbers" was released on February 25th, 2005 . After moving in to the old "Phresh Studios" after its demise, Buffalo Creek decided to take a stab at recording an album all on its own.

Buffalo Creek purchased an array of condenser microphones, a Korg D16XD recording unit, some other recording gear and Buffalo Creek Studios was born. Some of the tracks were recorded @ the same location as Signal to Noise, and all of the rest were done at Nick's house in Chico. The track "Happy To Be Here" was recorded at Arn's Cabin in Crescent Lake Oregon. All mixing was done in Nevada City, and the mastering was done by Will Carroll at "The Shop", accept for "Barroom Queens" which was done by Nick Bearden.

ALBUM ART:

Cyrus Smith created the cross-stiched art for the cover and tray card of the record. The originals are cross-stiched on two-foot square canvas and took several weeks to complete. Cross-stich photographed by Cyrus Smith.

It took about a year to get the project complete. The recording unit was purchased in Feb. of '04 and the album was released in Feb. of '05. Buffalo Creek tracked 9 songs but only 7 plus 1 bonus track made it to the final cut. With technical logistics of Bryn & Marc being over 700 miles apart from one another with Nick in the middle, some of the songs did not get completed. However, since the record was released one of the tracks that did not make it to the final album has been completed and will be released exclusively on this web site.

Being gone from home in Nor Cal for so long now, Paint By Numbers is much needed comfort food for my ears. It reminds me of everything good about the places that I love. "Barroom Queens" is like a rockin' weekend in Chico. "Maybe" is like a quiet night drive through the Sacramento Valley. And without a doubt "Northern California" is my absolute favorite BC song. It's like coming out of the Sierra Nevada on some windy mountain road for home. The album isn't quite country, isn't quite rock, it's just good music, plain and simple. - Tyanna.

I heard about this album from some friends and decided to go online and find Buffalo Creek. A friend of mine keeps playing this disk over and over. The word is out, the new CD is coming and the band is ready to rock Chico once again. Chico's adopted local band Buffalo Creek is back, eager to release its latest album, "Paint By Numbers."

In the third album, fans can expect a little less country and a lot more rock 'n' roll. Vocalist, songwriter and guitarist Bryn Loosley said the band has moved from playing mostly country rock music to more traditional rock 'n' roll.
